Many manufacturers still rely on pre-internet strategies to find new business but as industrial buyers turn digital and become unwilling to directly engage with a supplier until late in theirdecision making process, opportunities to directly “sell” have become limited.
Wakefield Manufacturing Forum has teamed up with industrial marketing expert Dave Pannell, author of “Marketing & Manufacturing: A Culture Clash” and “Marketing for Manufacturers”, and sales guru Mark Prince from The Design Mechanics to explain the specific challenges that manufacturing businesses face and what techniques you should now be embracing to generate more sales in the digital age.
This event has been organised by the Wakefield Manufacturing Forum and Wakefield Metropolitan District Council.

The Ministry of Defence (MOD) are visiting the Yorkshire Region to engage with small and medium sized businesses. This event will describe the many procurement opportunities available and how to become part of the supply chain of the MOD.
The MOD spends approximately £14 billion a year procuring a wide variety of products and services to support the Armed Forces, both on operations and in peace time. In addition to complex military equipment requiring highly specialist suppliers and leading edge technology, the MOD also procures more ordinary ‘commodity’ items including:
|Food for ration packs||Estate & facilities management||Stationery||Medical Supplies|
|Fuels and utilities||Clothing||Furniture||Consultancy Services|
The MOD has a requirement for most types of product, either directly or indirectly, at some stage. Since 1st January 2016, the MOD has required their suppliers to have a Cyber Essentials certificate. MASS will help you to understand what these requirements are.
Less than 25% of SME’s actively export goods and services. DIT DSO will provide information on the current defence exporting opportunities and the support available for UK companies.

Wakefield Manufacturing forum meets Production Park
Wakefield Manufacturing Forum Meets Production Park
Lights camera action for manufacturers this February as the Wakefield Manufacturing Forum takes you behind the scenes at
Wakefield Manufacturers are invited to tread the boards at internationally recognised South Kirby rehearsal studios used by Madonna, Biffy Clyro and Coldplay. Discover the unique space that makes it the world’s premier entertainment rehearsal location.
Adrian Brooks, Founder of Production Park will give us an insight on what’s goes on at the park, how this family ran business has developed from a shed in South Kirkby to the live events arena we see today. Adrian will also explain why manufacturing is so important to the running of the business today.
Adrian’s early career involved pioneering aluminium tower structures and products. He invented the world’s first lightweight aluminium truss system Astralite, which soon became industry standard in the entertainment, leisure, retail and architectural markets.
Adrian then founded Litestructures to build on the reputation of Astralite and went on to create many notable ‘firsts’, such as the world’s premier stage decking system Litedeck and Astralive, the first system to incorporate live tracking to carry mains power.
Developing and extending these innovative concepts kept him in touch with the concert and touring marketplace, and he went on to build the LS-Live Studio in 2005. This has grown into the Production Park we see today.
Don’t miss this event at Production Park on Tuesday February 8, starting at 10.00am, sponsored by R&D tax specialists Jumpstart. You will find out how investment in Research & Development can be reclaimed and reinvested into your business, and make it competitive on the global stage
Nicole Ballantyne is Customer Engagement Manager for Jumpstart, Yorkshire and the Humber, she said: “Jumpstart minimise the risk, time and complexity of R&D tax claims for their clients, whilst maximising the value, in a robust and defendable way. We de-mistify the process for new claimants, and if you’ve already been claiming, our scientific and technical approach has proven to increase the identified eligible spend by an average of 100%
We hope to see you there!
Excellent networking opportunities will be available on the day and teas and coffees and hot sandwiches will be provided at the end of the tour. Please feel free to stay for some more networking
The Production Park tour is on Wednesday 8th February starting at 10.00am – 11:30am
