Women Fly the Flag for Women’s World Cup

Women's World Cup Flag Side on Northern Flags

All-female led team support the Lionesses in their game against Norway.

The team at Northern Flags seized their chance to support by designing, printing and hemming the 3m flag before hoisting it up on a 26ft pole outside the print company’s offices in Leeds.

Claire Taylforth, General Manager, said of the project: “Northern Flags are proud that 70% of its workforce are women, which is highly unusual in the print and manufacturing industry. After watching the Women’s team fly through to the quarter final, the girls wanted to show their support and use their extensive design and print knowledge. I was delighted when I saw the girls clubbing together to design, print, hem – and hoist it up!”

Claire further explained: “It was a team effort: Sarah and Ella from Marketing and Design worked collaboratively to design the flag, Paisley and Ruth, our Digital Print Operators, put it through production and Jo, our seamstress, hemmed the flag. Sarah and Ella then hoisted the flag up!”

The team wanted to keep it topical. Using ‘#Lionesses’ as their inspiration, a Lionesses head was placed behind the England Cross, alongside the tag line ‘Lionesses. Pride of Britain.’ The colour of the Lionesses head was colour matched to the England’s Away Kit.

This isn’t the first time the company has flown the flag for an England Team; for the Men’s World Cup last year, a waistcoat-inspired flag was made, in homage to the waistcoat worn by England Manager Gary Southgate.

The flag will fly for the duration of the World Cup outside the company’s offices.
